Register For Voting

The first step you can take to exercise your franchise is getting yourself registered to vote. And guess what? You can register yourself online!

All you got to do is download Form 6 provided by the Election Commission of India. Fill out the form and submit the form to your nearest local Electoral Registration Officer.

Address Verification

Your address is needed by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to verify your residence status. Therefore it is not essential for your address proof document to bear your name, but it needs to have the address of the place you are staying at.

Documents Required

Any one of the following document is acceptable for address proof:

Mobile telephone bill Electricity bill Bank statement House lease/Rental agreement Driving license

Passport Property tax receipt Identity cards provided by your employers Landline telephone bill Ration card

If you are a first time voter, you are required to submit an age proof document. For this you can submit the proof of 'Date of Birth' from authorised documents like the PAN card, passport, birth certificate and driving license issued by the government.

Address verification usually takes place within 2 weeks of submitting your voter registration form. Booth Level Officer appointed by the Electoral Registration Officer verifies your address proof for each polling booth within a parliamentary constituency.
